I have often been told by others due to the drama I create in my life, “you should write a book.” To this I laugh as I began attempts at this as a teenager which just wound up being angry letters I left in my typewriter for my parents to find and the ploy for attention. I thought and still think it is all about me from a default.
Since I retired from the military and graduated college, I have attempted again to make that sketch of my life and the result are the same. Only now, the notes are for me because my parents are dead. With that grim fact out there and since you have made it this far reading, I will warn you…this is raw material and not doctored up to create a pleasant image of some glorified life. Some shit I will reveal and my frames of thinking are plain out fucked up in the eyes of others. I swear, I am direct and the goal here is for awareness and others to either educate themselves or acceptance for those of you who suffer too.
So many times over the past few years, delete, delete, delete goes the docs in the box. How many times did I begin writing different stories and about how many men in my life or even that one time from AA where I attempted to do some steps. My resentments were in the hundreds and that should be of little surprise to anyone who gets the description and symptoms of we, the BPD people.
Let’s talk about the name Borderline Personality Disorder for those of you who don’t get it and for those of you who suffer as well or may be different than myself. The word borderline actually implies a fine line between neurosis and psychosis. I experience and blow up many simple items with distress (neurosis) which in turn some call drama. The psychosis part is the part that follows the drama which we can call, acting out. For me, I lose control, impulsivity takes over and I fall to behaviors such as creating abusive relationships, binge-drinking, drug abuse, cutting, bulimia, spending sprees and at times hyper-sexuality. Anything to ground myself and get back to reality. My mind goes into overdrive and spins and spins until I disassociate or even hallucinate things that are not real. The only way to find reality is to ground and I practice the things I read for self-help, the things my therapist offers, and sometimes I just need some fucking pain to get back, so I find a way to self-harm and see how risky I can get.
I was diagnosed 15 years ago and mind you, the doctor said, “Oh, you don’t want to be diagnosed with this. It is frightening to others.” Since that wack job mentioned that, it took me 10 years to finally agree with professionals and begin to accept that I had these traits and if I ever wanted to get any better, I needed to acknowledge and work at them.
Hence…here we are. To get a grasp of the confusion I am going to begin blogging about, it is important to understand many think we are bipolar, yet instead of having mania for x amount of days and then falling to depression for weeks to months, I have elation, depression, suicidal ideations, elation again, paranoia, anger, abandonment, more suicidal ideations and maybe more elation followed by one of the select behaviors I listed earlier to try and ground myself back to reality. These occur all with a frame one day to one week. It is a true roller coaster up and down over and around and in shorter stints than what Bipolar disorder individuals experience. The thing most BPD people are is resilient and our bottom line that changed our thinking was abandonment.
From here on out, I will begin with a daily account of the latest and greatest behavior that is consuming me because I have to play Wheel of Fortune and wherever the wheel lands, so the prize begins. Today, I am having purging episodes from normal sized meals. I don’t intend purge to occur, yet it has. I have suffered this month and gave up caring about money. I have dealt with the firing of a maintenance man I turned in for entering my home unannounced, a biopsy on my neck, my debit card being pick-pocketed and $415 spent and filling out in detail my daily habits, fears, and unusual behavior for SSDI paperwork. That itself was enough to put me over the edge.
I opted for medication (Adderall) to help me and it does, yet I feel kind of edgy, but focused. I have co-disorders and ADHD is a fine one to boot. I come from generation X where our parents didn’t medicate us the moment they saw distress, only mine punished me and swapped me back and forth living because I couldn’t be dealt with. What kind of parent abandons their kid because they don’t act like they would rather them act? Mine and I am actually glad I don’t have to be unaccepted from them any longer.
Being on my meds today, I cleaned my home, swept, dusted, and vacuumed. I forced myself on a long walk in nature with my dog and then to the dog park so she can play with her friends and back in again. If I go to the dog park, it means I am having a good day because I will converse with others. The last and best result; I am here to share with you.
Until tomorrow and to all of you who read, asta la pasta and more to come.
